Having your children familiarized with the use of the Internet is a very good thing, since most of the information we receive comes from the Internet and it is highly recommended for everyone to be able to use it. Also, this is a very important socializing factor next to family, school and pair group. The problem is that the Internet does not only contain useful information. Since everyone who owns a computer with an Internet connection can upload everything they want, there is a great chance your children visit dangerous websites that can affect the way they grow and how they relate to the others. I want to add some tips about protecting your children when they are accessing the Internet.

Your child should never reveal any personal info to anyone over the net. Things like passwords and home addresses should never be given out to anyone. Neither your children should agree to meet people they are talking to over the net. Your kid should carefully choose what websites to visit, or not. This is very important when we are talking about online safety. You should always be next to your child when he/she is surfing the Internet. You should make sure your child knows what webpages not be visit. Also, block the web pages you encounter that have a content that might harm your kid and affect his/ her further evolution.

Take time to be with your kid when he/she is browsing the Internet. This way you will find out his/her main interests. It will help you to further educate your kid on good goals and no just using the Internet to play around. Your kids will find that the Internet is full of resources, facts and things to learn. They will also find that they can spend a lot of time on it (and not on other useful things) if you don’t put rules about its use.

Your children should always browse websites that you previously bookmarked for them.  Or you can always create a dedicated, and limited, account for your kids. Then setup filters in all the browsers so they won’t visit unauthorized webpages.
